In June 2012, SACSCOC sent a letter of inquiry to the University regarding the resignation and subsequent reinstatement of President Teresa A. Sullivan. A response was submitted, on behalf of the Board of Visitors, on Sept. 20, 2012, as well as additional information on Nov. 10, 2012. As a result of the inquiry, the University was placed on Warning due to noncompliance with Core Requirement 2.2 (Governing Board) and Comprehensive Standard 3.7.5 (Faculty Role in Governance).
As part of the Warning due to non-compliance with Core Requirement 2.2 (Governance) and Comprehensive Standard 3.7.5 (Faculty Role in Governance), the University was required to submit a Monitoring Report by Aug. 19, 2013. In addition, a special committee visited the University Sept. 16-18, 2013. On Dec. 10, 2013, the SACSCOC Board of Trustees removed the University from Warning. The findings of this visiting committee represent a preliminary assessment of the institution at this time; final action on the report rests with the Commission on Colleges.

Institutional Environment Inquiry
In December 2014, SACSCOC sent a letter of inquiry to the University regarding sexual assault policies and procedures. More specifically, the University was asked to document compliance with Comprehensive Standard 3.11.2 (Institutional Environment).
