Institutional Accreditation

Institutional accreditation and associated academic compliance requirements assure students, parents, and members of the public that the University is an effective provider of high-quality educational programs and services. Through accreditation and academic compliance activities, the University reaffirms its ongoing commitment to academic excellence and innovation.

The University of Virginia is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, masters, educational specialist, and doctoral degrees. The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) approves new degree and certificate programs, as well as certain changes to existing programs.

Institutional accreditation and related academic compliance requirements are overseen by the Executive Vice President and Provost and managed by Institutional Research and Analytics.
